her fearful symmetry.
this is a great read for a holiday break, very conducive to being quickly devoured. i’m not the biggest fan of audrey niffenegger’s writing style but i love her ability to craft inventive and captivating plots. an interesting take on twins, london, death, ghosts and relationships. for more specific critique (spoiler alert) click through…
if you have also read this novel, i am curious to know how your feelings toward valentina and julia did or did not change throughout the story. i started off completely disgusted with julia and by the end was almost relieved (though reviled at elspeth) that valentina died for her stupid scheme. i feel like niffenegger could have come up with a better motivation for valentina to want elspeth to kill her other than getting away from julia. if valentina isn’t brave enough to straight up run away, she isn’t brave enough to attempt death to escape her twin.
i found some of the twists to be overly foreshadowed but overall i enjoyed it. martin’s character was fantastic. i wound up liking julia despite my initial distaste. i am still not sure whether i believe that elspeth didn’t mean to kill valentina. i am leaning toward it being intentional.
